High consumption of cruciferous vegetables may diminish prostate cancer risk.

This study evaluated the role of fruits and vegetables in the development of prostate cancer. Using validated food frequency questionnaires, researchers examined the intakes of fruits and vegetables in 628 prostate cancer patients and 602 healthy males below 65 years for a duration of 3-5 years. The prostate cancer hazard ratios were assessed in all the subjects.

Researchers discovered that high consumption of cruciferous vegetables lowered the risk of developing prostate cancer. Ingesting large quantities of fruits was observed to have no effect on prostate cancer development. The findings of this study show that high intake of cruciferous vegetables significantly reduces prostate cancer risk.
