Generous intake of fruits and vegetables may help protect individuals against lung cancer

​The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate whether an association exists between fruit and vegetable consumption and lung cancer risk. Researchers systematically reviewed data extracted from 43 studies. They observed a significant protective association between high dietary ingestion of fruits and vegetables and lung cancer. The likelihood of developing lung cancer was found to decrease by 3% in subjects who consumed an extra serving of fruits and vegetables every day. The findings of this meta-analysis support the hypothesis that habitual consumption of fruits and vegetables may decrease lung cancer risk significantly.
