Ultra-Processed Food Intake and Risk of Colorectal Cancer: A Matched Case-Control Study

Elevated consumption of ultra-processed foods may result in a hike in colorectal cancer risk in men and women.

This study investigated the hypothesis that fondness for ultra-processed foods can increase an individual's chances of acquiring colorectal cancer. Researchers compared the rate of consumption of ultra-processed foods in a study group comprising of 71 patients with colorectal cancer and 142 persons with the disease.

Researchers noted that higher intake of ultra-processed foods correlated with greater risk of colorectal cancer. This study provided further evidence that generous ingestion of ultra-processed foods may favor the development of colorectal cancer.
