The Relationship Between Plant-Based Diet and Risk of Digestive System Cancers: A Meta-Analysis Based on 3,059,009 Subjects

High compliance with a plant-based diet may help inhibit the formation of cancerous cells and tumors in the digestive tract.

The objective of this study was to determine how eating a plant-based diet can affect an individual's risk of developing cancer in the digestive tract using a meta-analytic approach. Researchers utilized data and evidence obtained over 3 million people who participated in different studies.

Researchers noticed that the odds of developing cancer in the digestive tract, including colorectal and pancreatic cancer, dropped significantly among followers of plant-based diets. This study adds to the mountain of evidence showing that diets rich in plant foods may exert a protective effect against the development of cancer in the digestive system.
