Association between dietary phytochemical index and breast cancer: a case-control study

Devout consumption of foods high in phytochemicals, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, may help protect women against breast cancer.

This study explored the correlation between frequent ingestion of phytochemical-containing foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and a woman's chances of developing breast cancer (BC). A total of 1050 Iranian women enrolled for this study and volunteered information about their dietary choices and breast cancer diagnosis status.

Researchers identified a favorable association between greater intake of phytochemical-rich foods and lower risk of breast cancer in women. "Therefore, high consumption of foods rich in phytochemicals such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains might help reducing the odds of BC among women," the study authors concluded.
