Ultra-Processed Food and Its Impact on Bone Health and Joint Diseases: A Scoping Review
Ultra-processed food consumers tend to have a high risk of suffering from several bone and joint diseases, including osteoporosis, gout, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
The objective of this meta-analysis was to elaborate on current evidence associating the consumption of ultra-processed foods with the onset of bone and joint diseases. Up to 19 studies met the inclusion criteria for this meta-analysis.
Researchers observed that high dietary ingestion of ultra-processed foods shifted the risk of developing several diseases affecting bones and joints, such as osteoporosis, gout, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis, in the upward direction. The findings of this study revealed that indulgence in ultra-processed foods may facilitate the development of osteoporosis, gout, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis in men and women.
