Decreased risk of stroke is associated with increased consumption of diets high in dietary fiber.

This study examined the consumption of dietary fiber in relation to the risk of stroke. Researchers collated and analyzed data obtained from 6 cohort studies, encompassing 314,864 subjects and 8920 cases of stroke.

Researchers observed that subjects in the highest quartile of dietary fiber intake had lower risk of developing stroke than those in the lowest quartile. The incidence of stroke was found to be decreased by 12% for every 10g of extra fiber consumed per day. The results of this meta-analysis indicate that regular consumption of diets rich in fiber may be beneficial in the prevention of stroke.
