The role of tomato products and lycopene in the prevention of gastric cancer: a meta-analysis of epidemiologic studies.

High intake of tomatoes and lycopene-rich foods may reduce the likelihood of developing stomach cancer.

This study examined the role of regular consumption of diets high in tomatoes and lycopenes in the prevention of gastric (stomach) cancer. Researchers conducted a meticulous meta-analysis on data obtained from 21 published studies. They discovered that subjects who consistently consumed diets rich in tomatoes and lycopenes had lower stomach cancer odds than those who seldomly or did not eat these types of diets. The results of this meta-analysis show that generous intake of tomatoes and lycopene-rich foods may decrease an individual’s susceptibility to stomach cancer.
