Dietary flavonols intake and risk of esophageal and gastric cancer: a meta-analysis of epidemiological studies.

Low esophageal and gastric cancer risk is associated with generous intake of diets high in flavonols.

This study investigated the correlation between regular intake of flavonol-rich diets and the odds of developing esophageal and gastric (stomach) cancer by meta-analysis. Twenty studies that examined 523,971 subjects and 4593 gastric and esophageal cancer cases were included in this meta-analysis. Researchers observed a low incidence of gastric and esophageal cancer among subjects, particularly women and smokers, who regularly consumed diets containing high amounts of flavonols. The findings of this meta-analysis reveal that high intake of flavonol-rich foods may confer significant protection against stomach and esophageal cancer.
