Adequate intake of fruits and vegetables may help guard against the development of asthma and wheezing in children and adults.

The objective of this meta-analysis was to determine the correlation between high dietary ingestion of fruits and vegetables and the likelihood of developing asthma and wheezing in children and adults. A total of 14 case-control studies were included in this meta-analysis.

Researchers found out that the chances of developing asthma and wheezing were lower in high consumers of fruits and vegetables than in adults and children who rarely consumed or totally avoided fruits and vegetables. The findings of this meta-analysis suggest that increased consumption of fruits and vegetables may confer adults and children with significant protection against the development of asthma and wheezing.
