Phytochemical Index and the Risk of Gastritis/Gastric Ulcer among Korean Adults: A Prospective Cohort Study

Loading our plates with foods heavy on phytochemicals may help shield us from gastritis/gastric ulcer.

This study investigated whether diets high on phytochemical-containing foods can confer individuals with significant protection against gastritis/gastric ulcer. Researchers surveyed the diets and health of 7,377 Korean men and women for more than 9 years. During the course of the study, 729 participants were diagnosed with gastritis/gastric ulcer.

Researchers observed that consumers of foods rich in phytochemicals accounted for a low percentage of gastritis/gastric ulcer cases recorded in the study population. The results of this study showed that adequate intake of phytochemicals from food sources may help prevent the development of gastritis/gastric ulcer.
