A meta-analysis on alcohol drinking and gastric cancer risk.

Compared to non-consumers, heavy consumers of alcohol are more likely to develop stomach cancer.

This study investigated the effect of alcohol consumption on gastric (stomach) cancer risk. Researchers conducted a meticulous meta-analysis on data extracted from 59 studies that examined 34,557 cases of gastric cancer.

Researchers observed a high prevalence of stomach cancer among heavy drinkers of alcohol. On the other hand, moderate consumption of alcohol was found to have no significant effect on gastric cancer risk in this study. The results of this meta-analysis suggest that high consumption of alcohol may promote the development of cancerous cells in the stomach.
