Whole grains and risk of pancreatic cancer in a large population-based case-control study in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.

Regular intake of whole grains may contribute positively to the prevention of pancreatic cancer.

This study investigated the hypothesis that increased consumption of whole grains can reduce pancreatic cancer risk in men and women. Researchers from University of California compared the whole grain intake levels with the relative risk of pancreatic cancer in more than 2,000 subjects recruited from San Francisco Bay Area.

The team of researchers observed that high consumers of whole grains had better chances of avoiding pancreatic cancer. Data from this study indicate that diets high in whole grains may offer significant protection against pancreatic cancer.
