Statins and risk for new-onset diabetes mellitus: A real-world cohort study using a clinical research database.

A surge in type 2 diabetes risk is associated with statin use.

This study evaluated the correlation between statin intake and type 2 diabetes risk. Researchers analyzed data obtained from 41,325 Korean subjects. They found out that subjects who were exposed to statins had higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those who were not exposed to statins. The findings of this study show that statin therapy may increase diabetes mellitus risk.
