Consistent consumers of red and processed meat may be more prone to suffer from obesity, develop unhealthy body mass index (BMI), and have high waist circumference.

This study evaluated the association between red and processed meat consumption and the likelihood of suffering from obesity. Researchers reviewed data and evidence extracted from 39 studies involving over 1 million subjects.

Researchers discovered that individuals who consumed large amounts of red and processed meats were at most risk of suffering obesity and having higher body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference than persons on low meat diets. The findings of this study reveal that high dietary ingestion of red and processed meats may contribute positively to the development of unhealthy weight, body mass index, and waist circumference.
