Intake of soy products is associated with better plasma lipid profiles in the Hong Kong Chinese population.

​Adequate intake of soy foods is associated with a healthy cholesterol number in men and in younger women.

This study assessed the effect of soy foods on blood levels of lipids. With the aid of semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, researchers collated and analyzed data on the soy food intake of more than 1,000 Hong Kong Chinese men and women. Plasma concentrations of total cholesterol were measured in all the subjects.

Researchers observed that high dietary ingestion of soy foods decreased plasma levels of total cholesterol in men and in younger women. The findings of this study reveal that a high soy diet may favorably affect  lipid profile in men and in younger women.
