Cigarette smoking may up an individual's risk of suffering from hip and spine fractures.

This study was carried out to determine the relationship between cigarette smoking and the incidence of fracture. Researchers analyzed 50 cohort and case-control studies that examined the link between cigarette smoking and fracture risk in current, former, and never smokers.

Researchers discovered that cigarette smoking raised the odds of suffering from hip and spine fractures. According to this study, smoking had no effect on wrist fracture risk, but cessation of cigarette smoking was found to be associated with reduced fracture risk. The results of this study indicate that current smokers may be more prone to suffer from hip and spine fractures than former and never smokers.
