Generous consumption of salt and salt-rich foods may increase stomach cancer development risk.

This study examined the association between excess dietary intake of salt and salty foods and the occurrence of gastric (stomach) cancer. Researchers analyzed nutritional and clinical data obtained from relevant published studies. They observed that the risk of developing stomach cancer was high in individuals who regularly consumed large amounts of salt and salty foods. The results of this study lend support to the hypothesis that high dietary ingestion of salt-rich foods may be a major contributing factor to the development of gastric cancer.
