Dietary fiber intake and risk of cardiovascular disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

High intake of diets rich in fiber may protect individuals from cardiovascular diseases.

This study examined the consumption of dietary fiber in relation to the incidence of cardiovascular diseases. Researchers reviewed 23-year-old data on dietary fiber intake and cardiovascular disease risk ratio extracted from 22 cohort studies. They found out that participants with high intake of dietary fiber demonstrated a significant decline in cardiovascular and coronary heart disease (CHD) risk. The results of this study suggest that increased consumption of diets high in fiber is vital in reducing the odds of developing cardiovascular and coronary heart disease.
