​A high-fiber diet rich in fruits and vegetables may help to ward off depression.

This study investigated the correlation between the intake of dietary fiber and the chances of suffering from symptoms of depression. A total of 1,977 Japanese workers between the ages of 19-69 years took part in this study; they were assessed by their diet and observed for symptoms of depression by a team of researchers from the University of Tokyo.

The research team found out that increased intake of fiber-rich foods, especially fruits and vegetables, decreased the likelihood of of having depressive symptoms. This study provides evidence that generous consumption of foods high in fiber may help to keep depression at bay.
