Cigarette smoking may put an individual at high risk of having bladder, kidney, and pancreatic cancer.
This study examined the role of cigarette smoking in the development of kidney, bladder, colorectal, and pancreatic cancer. Researchers collated and analyzed data on the smoking habits and colorectal, kidney, pancreatic, and bladder cancer hazard ratios of 6,008 subjects residing in Iowa.
Researchers observed a higher rate of kidney, bladder, and pancreatic cancer among smokers than in non-smokers. Cigarette smoking was found to have no significant effect on colorectal cancer development risk in this study. The findings of this study show that cigarette smoking may promote the formation of cancerous cells and tumors in the bladder, pancreas, and kidney.
