​Erectile dysfunction may occur with greater incidence in smokers than in never smokers.

This study investigated the smoking-erectile dysfunction connection hypothesis. Scientists Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, USA, followed 7,684 Chinese men aged 35-74 years without a previous history of clinical vascular disease and compared smoking status with the rate of occurrence of erectile dysfunction.

The team of scientists discovered that the likelihood of suffering from erectile function was high in smokers than in never smokers. According to this study, cigarette smoking was responsible for about 22.7% of all cases of erectile dysfunction among Chinese men. This study supports the hypothesis that cigarette smoking may promote the development of erectile dysfunction.
