Associations between Dietary Antioxidant Intake and Metabolic Syndrome.

Individuals who are habitual consumers of foods high in selenium and vitamin C are less prone to develop metabolic syndrome.

This study investigated the role of high dietary ingestion of antioxidant-rich foods in the prevention of metabolic syndrome. Researchers analyzed data on the biochemical test results and diets of 2,069 subjects.

The research team observed that subjects with high intake of foods high in vitamin C and selenium demonstrated a marked reduction in the odds of metabolic syndrome. Conversely, consistent consumption of foods rich in carotenoids and vitamin E was found to have no significant effect on metabolic syndrome risk in this study. The findings of this study indicate that eating foods packed with selenium and vitamin C may be beneficial in the prevention of metabolic syndrome.
