Association between antidepressants and venous thromboembolism in Taiwan.
Regular intake of antidepressants may elevate the risk of developing venous thromboembolism.
This study was carried out to determine whether antidepressants increase the risk of venous thromboembolism. Researchers monitored the antidepressant use and rate of occurrence of venous thromboembolism in more than 10,000 men and women recruited from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan.
Researchers discovered that the chances of having venous thromboembolism was higher in users of antidepressants than in non-users of these drugs. The findings of this study reveal that antidepressant use may be a risk factor for venous thromboembolism.
