Heavy drinking of alcohol might be a risk factor for the occurrence of subarachnoid hemorrhage.

This meta-analysis investigated how alcohol intake affects the risk of suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage. Researchers reviewed data obtained from 14 observational studies that examined 483,553 individuals and 2,556 cases of subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Researchers found out that individuals who were heavy drinkers of alcohol exhibited a higher risk of suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage than non-consumers of alcoholic beverages did. According to this study, every 10 grams increase in alcohol intake per day was found to elevate subarachnoid hemorrhage risk by 12.1%. Data from this meta-analysis suggest that heavy consumers of alcohol may have increased predisposition to suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage.
