A surge in the risk of esophageal cancer is associated with cigarette smoking.

​An increase in the likelihood of contracting tuberculosis is associated with cigarette smoking.

The objective of this study was to investigate the connection between cigarette smoking and the risk of acquiring tuberculosis. Researchers from the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease compiled data from 42 studies that examined the association between smoking and tuberculosis risk.

The research team found out that tobacco smoking elevated the risk of contracting tuberculosis. The findings of this study show that cigarette smokers are more likely to come down with tuberculosis than non-smokers.
