Androgenic alopecia is associated with higher dietary inflammatory index and lower antioxidant index scores

Choosing a pro-inflammatory diet may trigger the onset of hair loss arising from androgenic alopecia in men.

Androgenic alopecia also known as male pattern baldness is a type of progressive hair loss that predominantly affects the crown and front of the scalp. This study analyzed the incidence of androgenic alopecia in men in accordance with the inflammatory and antioxidant properties of their diets. A total of 7,348 out of the 9,647 men who volunteered dietary information for this study had androgenic alopecia.

Researchers found a high rate of androgenic alopecia among men who indulged in pro-inflammatory foods. On the other hand, men on antioxidant-rich diet had bright chances of preventing hair loss resulting from androgenic alopecia. The findings of this study revealed that sticking to a high antioxidant diet may help halt the occurrence of androgenic alopecia in men.
